Four our diamond jewelry we use only quality diamonds in the colour Top Wesselton, clarity SI1 (small inclusions) - Inclusions are noticeable under 10x magnification.

Evaluation of polished diamonds

In order for the evaluation of the quality and thus the price of a polished diamond the so called four C (carat, colour, clarity, cut) are taken as criteria:

Carat Weight

The weight unit for gemstones is carat, the abbreviation is ct. This unit has its name from the arabic / greek designation of seeds of the carob tree (lat. Ceratonia siliqua). In ancient times these were used as weights, as they are formed very evenly in size. One metric carat equals to exactly 0,2 grams.

Clarity

Following abbreviations and terms are used to describe the clarity (in ranking):

• fl flawless: No inclusions and no blemishes visible under 10x magnification
• if internally flawless: No inclusions visible under 10x magnification
• vvs1 / vvsi very, very small inclusions: Inclusions so slight they are difficult for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification
• vvs2 very, very small inclusions: Inclusions so slight they are difficult for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification
• vs1 / vsi very small inclusions: Inclusions are observed with effort under 10x magnification, but can be characterized as minor
• vs2 very small inclusions: Inclusions are observed with effort under 10x magnification, but can be characterized as minor
• si1 small inclusions: Inclusions are noticeable under 10x magnification but they mostly not be noticeable with your bare eyes
• si2 small inclusions: Inclusions are easily noticeable under 10x magnification and also noticeable with your bare eyes
• i1 Included I (Piquee I): Inclusions in this grade are obvious under 10x magnification and may affect transparency and brilliance
• i2 Included II (Piquee II): Inclusions in this grade are obvious under 10x magnification and may affect transparency and brilliance
• i3 Included III (Piquee III): Inclusions in this grade are obvious under 10x magnification and affect transparency and brilliance

Colour

Although diamonds may appear colourless to an untrained eye, an expert easily can categorize them into different colour classes :

Cut

Natural Diamond in Drop-Cut

The cut grading of a diamond is essential for its fire. Where one can appear nearly dull, another one can emit sparks. Following overview is based on RAL 560 A5E.

1. Excellent - Optimal fire and brilliance as virtually all the light that enters is reflected

2.     Very good - Excellent brilliancy. Few or with only small out characteristics. Very good proportions.

3.     Good - Good brilliancy. Some outer characteristics, proportions with slight deviations.

4.     Medium - Lowered brilliancy. Various bigger outer characteristics. Proportions with considerable deviations.

5.     Poor - Extreme lowered brilliancy. Big and/or numerous outer characteristics. Proportions with very evident deviations.
